However, its easy to get swept up in traveling and only see the amazing places that we visit as a places that only exist in our dreams that we temporarily get to visit.

Seeing the world this way adds a magical quality to life, but it also makes it easy to forget that these places are not works of fiction but real places that exist in this world. The things we see, while magical in their own way, are wholly real. It’s easy to get swept away in this thinking, and even easier to forget that real people inhabit these places, and its them that gave it its magical quality to begin with.

The Things We Connect With

Untouched Europe Spain GrionaThe scenes of daily life are always around us while traveling, but because we get caught up in the moment those things tend to be lost on us. The cab ride to the city center, the clerk at the grocery, laundry waving on the line, all these things are easy to ignore and walk right by, but its these things that tell the real story of every place that we visit. It’s these simple things that take a place from the dream and make it a reality.

Traveling through the world feeling as though we stepped into one of our dreams is a great thing, but it’s when it becomes grounded in reality that truly make a place special. It’s impossible to realty to the Colosseum or the people who built it, however its easier to understand the woman hanging her laundry on the line across the street. It’s this relatable act that we truly connect with and all of a sudden makes us realize that this magical place is real.

When we start to see the world as a human place we start to connect with every experience in a far deeper fashion. We know what its like to work outside on a hot summer day and what a cold beer tastes like at the end of one. These simple acts are so totally human, that we understand them implicitly and we begin to realize how similar we really are.

What Binds Us Together

The greatest aspect of travel is the great realization that we are all connected. Even though we share different backgrounds, different languages, different cultures, and even different values, there are some things that we all share. When we start to connect with these daily life experiences we understand that the world while vast and seemingly unending, really isn’t that big. There are few places you’ll go where people don’t enjoy time spent with family and friends, few people you’ll meet who don’t enjoy relaxing after a long day.

The places we travel may only exist in our lives for a few weeks or in some cases a few days, but will nevertheless leave a mark on us. It’s easy to forget these places we visit exist outside our lives, that the people we meet while traveling continue living long after we leave them. The more we connect with the simplicity in life the more we see just how interconnected we all are. No matter how far you go or how strange a place may seem, in the end we will always share the small things that make life so sweet. When your on the road of travel don’t forget to stop and appreciate these tiny similarities, because it’s these things that truly make a place great.
